This year, MIPI DevCon was held in Bangalore, India and Hsinchu City, Taiwan in October. Synopsys MIPI protocol experts hosted several demos at each conference showcasing implementation experiences, use cases and application examples within mobile, automotive, IoT and mixed reality applications.
Synopsys VIP experts demonstrated the compression and decompression of an image using MIPI DSI-DSC and advanced verification and debug features for comparison of original and decompressed images. If you are interested in knowing more about this process, we encourage you to read the latest VIP white paper – Analyzing the Losses in Visually Lossless Compression Algorithms. This paper presents interesting methods to analyze the quality of compression algorithms, as well as observations about VESA Display Stream Compression using these algorithms. In addition, Synopsys also presented a paper – ‘Overcoming Inter-Symbol Interference with MIPI PHYs using Training Sequences’.
Synopsys has a comprehensive verification solution for MIPI covering the latest specifications. Synopsys VIP are implemented in 100% native System Verilog and UVM to enable ease-of-use, ease-of integration and high performance. In addition, Synopsys makes available test suites that are complete, self-contained, and design-proven test benches written in System Verilog and UVM, and targeted for comprehensive protocol testing and coverage. Test suites are provided as source code, enabling users to easily customize or extend the environments to include unique application-specific tests or corner-case scenarios. Using Synopsys VIPs and test suites, customers have successfully reduced verification time from months to a few hours in some cases.
At both events, there was a lot of interest from customers with regards to Synopsys’ comprehensive design and verification solutions for the latest specifications of MIPI protocols and complete UFS stack verification for emerging applications. Synopsys recently announced the Industry’s First Verification IP and Test Suites for MIPI CSI-2 v2.0 and PHY Specifications.
