Happy New Year!
The USB-IF will showcase dozens of USB 3.0 products at CES starting January 7.
HP, Fujitsu, Lenovo, Acer Notebooks
HP will demonstrate it’s EliteBook laptops models 8540w & 8540p at CES.
Lenovo will add a USB 3.0 enabled Thinkpad the W510 to it’s product lineup. Also, ASUS will demonstrate the N Series with USB 3.0 In addition, the USB-IF has certified 2 laptops including the HP Envy 15 and the Fujitsu FMV-BIBLO NF/G70 notebook PC.
Seagate, Western Digital
Seagate’s BlackArmor PS 110 Performance Kit includes a 500 GB Hard Drive, USB 3.0 Host PC card (ExpressCard), a USB 3.0 cable, and a USB power cable for $200. This is for your laptop since it’s an ExpressCard and a smaller form factor hard drive. I placed on-line order for this today.
Western Digital announced 2 versions of their My Book 3.0. The 1 TB version including a USB 3.0 add-in card for your PC is$200. Without the Host, the cost will be $180. The WD announcement says that a 2TB version will be available later this week.
Lots more USB 3.0 Hardware
LaCie 2Big USB 3.0 dual-drive RAID
MCCI USB 3.0 xHCI Host software
There is a lot more, but I really, really have to get a bunch of other work done.
Watch Fringe on FOX, Better Off Ted on ABC, and Chuck on NBC. These are the shows for the super geeks. And please go out and buy a DVR and a media player and an HDTV. Record these shows. Watch them.
I helped my dad buy an HDTV, and the one we picked at 2 USB Host ports, an Ethernet port, and 4 HDMI inputs. We got him a Blu-Ray Player for the HDTV.

I started working on USB in 1995, starting with the world’s first BIOS that supported USB Keyboards and Mice while at Award Software. After a departure into embedded systems software for real-time operating systems, I returned to USB IP cores and software at inSilicon, one of the leading suppliers of USB IP. In 2002, inSilicon was acquired by Synopsys and I’ve been here since. I also served as Chairman of the USB On-The-Go Working Group for the USB Implementers Forum from 2004-2006.
