Conversation Central is back at DAC – and online!
Posted by Karen B on May 20th, 2010
Last year, I helped create “Conversation Central” for the 46th DAC. It turned out to be a huge success. I received countless requests to do it again, so naturally I obliged. If you know me, you know I set the bar high for myself. Repeating the same kind of Conversation Central as last time would have been interesting, but that would have been too easy.
Thus, welcome to Conversation Central for the 47th DAC: a live “radio talk show” style event that will also be broadcast online to anyone in the world who wants to participate. Thanks to the power of social media, we’re going to bring the conversations beyond Synopsys’ booth on the DAC show floor.
There will be 27 sessions with different topics of interest and special guests for each. The schedule will be published soon. Instructions are also coming for how to listen in via phone or computer and for asking questions of the guests during the sessions.
When the 47th DAC is over, Conversation Central won’t end. We’ll continue to bring you regular programs on a variety of subjects. Be sure to let me know if you’d like to be a guest or have an idea for a future topic.
Whether you’ll be at DAC or not, I invite you all to join the conversation!
P.S. The Twitter hashtag for the 47th DAC is #47DAC. Follow the conversation there, too!

I can hardly believe it. I’ve been in the EDA business since 1980 when I joined TI’s Design Automation Department after graduating from Cal Poly with my BSEE. Since 1995, much of my attention has been focused on EDA standards. I reached a moment of truth this year when I admitted, albeit reluctantly, that I could be called a standards-lifer. So, I decided it’s time to share my perspectives on what’s going on in the standards arena. Welcome to my blog - I can’t wait to hear from you!

This is a very clever evolution of the original premise to include a global audience in the conversation.
This is a fantastic idea, since there will be many like me who are stuck in locations far from DAC where we would like to be, in three weeks …
Many thanks!
Thanks, guys! Spread the word – we hope to bring good dialog to everyone, not just those who can attend 47DAC.
Now, if only I could figure out how to bring DAC giveaways to the Internet…
Nice for standards, but should be in an Internation
Joseph,
It is indeed international. See my June 2 post with the schedule and instructions for anyone in the world to call in and participate.

Glad to see this program has been renewed — and morphed into an intriguing new format for DAC 2010. In particular, since many people won’t be able to travel to DAC this year, it will be interesting to see how many tune into the live broadcast vs. catch the “long tail” of recordings. Suffice to say I expect many vendors will be trying similar experiments, which I believe will only heighten interest in the DAC itself.
On a personal note: as an avid follower of his blog and tweets, I hope this year I’ll be able to sneak over to meet Ron Ploof in person.
As they say in show biz, “break a leg” (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Break_a_leg)
Joe
Joe -
Ron will be in Conversation Central on Monday off and on. He’s great, you’ll like him!
As for many vendors trying similar experiments, that’s great! Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery as they say.
See you at DAC,
Karen
