Conversation Central originally started at DAC 2009 as a series of interactive kitchen table-style discussions with bloggers, journalists, and other industry leaders.
Now Conversation Central has expanded beyond the trade show environment to broadcast the same level of thought-provoking interactive discourse worldwide through the Internet and as podcasts.
We publish a new show on the third Thursday of each month to tap into the insights and perspectives that are making a difference in our industry.

Sitting on the couch for one of the most exciting shows on Conversation Central, UC Berkeley Professor Jan Rabaey talked about a fascinating technology that he is developing that will change health, medicine and technology in a major way. Yes, per the title, the technology discussed was putting microchips in people’s brains. With the model brain that Karen brought, Jan shows us where the chips would be placed and explains in detail how it will work. Only being tested on animals currently, this use of a microchip is hoped to help in various brain degeneration problems, which could potentially include ALS disease and epilepsy.
Jan shared a number of images on his iPad and a couple of chips that were hard to see on the video, so we’ve included them for you below (in order of appearance below the video).
Guest: Ajay Lalwani, Vice President of Strategic Sourcing, eSilicon

This conversation features eSilicon’s Ajay Lawani who talks about major challenges facing today’s silicon supply chain. He specifically speaks to how the increasing complexity at advanced process nodes is affecting customers’ ability to effectively work with the supply chain. Ajay also discusses how the industry is responding to the continuing decline in the number of leading-edge foundries and the resulting lack of competition for the few players who remain. Since it has impacted so many people and companies, Karen asks Ajay about how the crisis in Japan has changed the supply chain and customers’ view of it.
Guest: Dan Lindblom, Select Account Manager, Cisco
Hosts: Karen Bartleson, Sr. Director, Community Marketing, Synopsys and Mark Williams, Director, Solutions Marketing, Synopsys

We had a full audience for our “EDA heads for the clouds” show at the 48th Design Automation Conference with special guest Dan Lindblom from Cisco. Dan discussed the hot topic of cloud computing, including what it is, the three different types of cloud and specifically what it means to the EDA industry. Dan also touches on the three things he believes is needed in order for EDA to move further and faster into the cloud and how the perception of security on the cloud has changed. Dan received a round of applause for his valuable and interesting insights at the close of the show.
